RANBIR KAPOOR PURCHASES AN APARTMENT WORTH RS. 35 CRORES AT PALI HILL

While everyone is aware of sky rocketing rates when it comes to Mumbai's real estate, Ranbir Kapoor's new purchase in the city has grabbed the attention of the media. The Barfi actor recently bought an apartment for Rs. 35 crores in the plush locality of Pali Hill in suburban Mumbai.

Ranbir Kapoor who was said to be in a live-in relationship with co-actor Katrina Kaif in another apartment, started house hunting after the alleged break-up between the two. The new Bandra pad of the actor is a 2,640 sq.ft apartment which was bought at the rate of Rs. 1.42 lakhs per sq.ft. Located at the seventh floor of the Vastu Pali Hill, this deal is said to one of the biggest deals recorded in real estate. From what we hear, one of the major reasons for the same is that the Pali Hill area of Mumbai is occupied by some of the biggest names in Bollywood and further, the said apartment is also in close proximity to Ranbir's ancestral bungalow 'Krishna Raj'.

Ranbir Kapoor is currently in Morocco shooting with Katrina Kaif for Jagga Jasoos and he is said to be shifting to his new residence once he wraps up the schedule of the same

THE TRUTH ABOUT NARGIS FAKHRI'S DEPARTURE

Everyone has a theory on why Nargis Fakhri suddenly left the country. Here's the truth. Nargis just got tired of trying to be a Bollywood actress. Yes, she upped and left because she couldn't cope with the demands of 'Bollywood'.

Friends say they saw it coming. Her going, I mean. "It has nothing to do with Uday Chopra at all," opines a male colleague who has worked with Nargis. "It has to do with her inability to fit into the Bollywood mould. She is not a coy eyelashes- fluttering bosom-heaving siren. She is more of a guys' guy than a girl. She discusses her breasts and burps in the same breath. She is a misfit. She just got tired of being told to behave like a Bollywood diva."

When in 2011 Nargis made her debut in Rockstar, she was clueless about what she was doing. Unlike Katrina that other firangi stunner in Bollywood, Nargis didn't pretend to know what she was doing. She very honestly confessed to me that saying those lengthy dialogues was like doing a whole film in Chinese.

Not much had changed three years later when did item songs in the Shahid Kapoor starrer Phata Poster Nikla Hero and in the Salman starrer Kick

She again honestly confessed to me that mastering those pelvic thrusts in the item songs were killing her. While fumbling to behave like a Bollywood queen Nargis also continued to say the most outrageous things in her interviews. Once she spoke without bashful stopovers, about her breasts. I pulled her up gently reminding her that Bollywood heroines don't talk like that.

"Really?" she responded with genuine bewilderment. "I guess I still need to learn how to behave."

To change herself, to conform, to become coy seems impossible for Nargis. She finally took a break and went back home to New York to be with her mother. Whether this break will last a month, as her spokesperson claims, or last for as long as Parveen Babi's break lasted, remains to be seen.

But one thing is for sure. Nargis can never be the typical Bollywood diva. It's too much of an effort for her.

COOKING UP ENTERTAINMENT: CINEMA ON FOOD

By this time next year, Saif Ali Khan will play the chef reconnecting with his estranged family with a food van in the Indian remake of Jon Favreau's 2014 Chef. Interestingly, it brings together the makers of two 100-plus crore grossers of 2016 in India-Favreau of Jungle Book and director Raja Krishna Menon of Airlift. Favreau had himself essayed the lead role in the original.

Food for thought: Will it be a guaranteed hit? Seems so, given its feel-good family story and fun ambience! But then Saif Ali Khan has played a chef with elan even before-in the 2005 rom-com Salaam Namaste, where again it was about finally reconnecting with his lost, live-in love, Preity Zinta. The film was a massive hit in Australia where it was shot, did well abroad and was a modest success in Indian cities.

But there's more news for the gourmands: Nana Patekar will similarly replace Prakash Raj, in the latter's Hindi debut as director, Tadka (loosely meaning the tempering done to a dish with oil and spices after it is cooked). Prakash had played the hero in the original Tamil version that he also directed, Un Samayal Arayil. The multi-lingual hit (in the South languages) has an interesting concept-four people unconnected with each other are finally brought together by-you guessed it!- food!

A 2016 release declared a clean success-that is, everyone from producer to distributor to exhibitor made profits-is the film Ki & Ka, a love story directed by R. Balki. The narration had leading man Arjun Kapoor drooling over the concept. In this film, he played a rich heir who prefers to be a homemaker while his executive wife works. He naturally is a skilled cook, rustling up exciting food too, and for the role, Arjun learnt how to cook, cut vegetables, and flip omelets like a seasoned cook and so on. In the 2010 flop Break Ke Baad, Imran Khan too had played a rich man's son whose dad wants him to join his business.

Hindi cinema is now as much of a global addiction as Indian food. In fact, our spicy gastronomic and celluloid recipes both keep winning new devotees all over the world every day. It is not for nothing that Kangana Ranaut, as Rani, attracts a European chef even in Queen as she prepares and serves spicy golgappeto the foreigners in their home country to win a cooking competition.

Off-screen, Elli Avram, who has mentally made India her home even before she settled here as an actor, even popularized Indian street-food on a cookery show for a leading Swedish channel recently.

Nevertheless, food has not been all that common as a theme in Hindi cinema. We do suspect Balki of being a great foodie though, for in his debut film Cheeni Kum, he got Amitabh Bachchan to play a 64 year-old pompous chef and restaurant owner in London, who falls for a 30-something girl whose father is younger to him! And in his production English Vinglish, a simpleton housewife (Sridevi) is an expert cook and sellsladdoos that she makes at home. Her cooking skills help her when she enrolls in an English conversational class in USA while on a trip.

Some 44 years ago, Hrishikesh Mukherjee spun a wonderful concoction called Bawarchi, in which Rajesh Khanna entered a dysfunctional joint family's household as a cook and all-purpose helper and gradually showed each member the error of his or her ways. He strategically won them over, literally using the proverb that the way to a man's (and in this case also a woman's) heart went through their stomachs!

In 1998, David Dhawan, ever the Hrishi-da aficionado, made Govinda reprise a similar role in his part-reworking of Bawarchi as Hero No.1. While the former film, well ahead of its times, did not do too well but became cult later, the latter was an instant hit.

A film that did well in certain centers was the amusing Mahesh Bhatt movie Duplicate with 'two' Shah Rukh Khans. The straight one is a chef and he is arrested as he is mistaken for a wicked and criminal lookalike.

Probably, the most extensive look at food in recent times was Daawat-E-Ishq, in which the chef hero (Aditya Roy Kapur) has a famous restaurant and who falls head-over-heels for a young girl (Parineeti Chopra), hell-bent on punishing suitors who ask for dowry. Obviously the resolution of their story was connected withkhaana as well. Sadly, this fairly riveting film came a cropper at the box-office.

Another flop that was fully food-centric was the 2005 Ramji Londonwaley, about a village cook sent to London to a fancy restaurant and his subsequent misadventures there. In Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, it was all about a secret chicken recipe and its economic impact on a family. The interesting premise was marred by an overlong, tedious and needlessly dark narration for what was essentially a comedy. Kunal Kapoor was the grandson searching for the secret of his now-senile grandfather's special recipe that made their family restaurant a hit.

Many other films have also been named after food items without any connection with delicacies in their storylines, like Chocolate (a thriller) and Barfi! (an off-beat romance). But in the ultimate analysis, it's all about cooking up that filmi recipe that is considered delicious and consumed with relish by most of the audience.

The sensational Priyanka Chopra, who made splash all over (quite literally) with the Hollywood flick Baywatch, has now finally wrapped up shooting for the film. Priyanka Chopra, who was visibly in an extremely emotional mood, posted the following picture on Instagram, which has her kissing (presumably a good bye kiss) to her co-star.

The hottie will also be missing from the promotions of her next film, Housefull 3. To quell rumours doing the rounds, her spokesperson yesterday released a list of illnesses that the actress is suffering from.

1. A torn hamstring.

2. Anterior knee ligament thinning.

3. Mild socket dislocation.

4. Burning of the stomach lining.

5. Lead and arsenic poisoning.

6. Fever of about 101 degrees right through.

Now, that's serious. Nargis sure needs a lot of love and care. Get well soon.

KRITI SANON'S PREP WORK IN BUDAPEST

Before starting shoot for her next film, in Budapest, Kriti took some time out to prepare for her character in the film.

A source reveals that Kriti's character in the film is someone who needs to be familiar with Budapest. Since she is naturally not familiar with the place as it was her first time living there, she put efforts into it. The actress would leave alone walking around the place, exploring the city on foot. While she was doing all this, she even made some local friends there. She picked up a couple of Hungarian words from them. On their recommendation, the actress even visited some local eateries there and absorbed the place completely.

These experiences have really helped Kriti build her character.

It was also a completely different experience for her as she has not explored any place alone like that. However, this character required her to do that, figure things by herself and she enjoyed the feeling of it.

spokesperson of Kriti shares, "This was required for her role and it has been a fun, learning process for her. By now, she is very familiar with the place."

AISH STUNS EVERYONE AT CANNES 2016

Wearing a dreamy creation of Lebanese fashion designer Elie Saab and her hair in waves loosely draped over one shoulder, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan left everyone spellbound at the 69th Cannes Film Festival.

"Aishwarya Rai in Elie Saab Haute Couture at the premiere of 'Le Bon Gros Geant' at the 69th Cannes Film Festival," the designer tweeted.

On Saturday, she took the red carpet by storm. Aishwarya is representing cosmetic giant L'oreal Paris at the gala.

With beautifully lined eyes and a deep red pout in her signature shade Pure Brick from the L'oreal Paris Pure Reds collection, she made a mark to celebrate her 15 years at Cannes.

Sporting jewellery from Boucheron and Ferragamo shoes, her overall look oozed glamour, elegance and panache.

SUNNY TRYING SOMETHING NEW FOR 'BEIIMAAN LOVE'!

The Sunny Leone you have known till now has fascinated the imagination of the masses as she has enamoured everyone with her unparalleled beauty, sensuality and charisma . However, Rajeev Chaudhari's "Beiimaan Love" will bring you face-to-face with an avatar of Sunny, which is beyond your wildest imaginations! Well, here we are talking about Sunny who has enacted various scenes in this movie, in which she had to cry and - can you believe it? - she actually did it without glycerine !

Yes, indeed you read that right! There was an emotional and melancholic scene where Sunny was in deep grief. She was so immersed into the character that she actually cried on the sets without glycerine and there were tears flowing from her eyes! The Director, Rajeev Chaudhari, was taken aback and asked her how she did it and Sunny's answer was that she remembered the loss of her parents and got lost in the scene to such an extent that she cried automatically.

There was also another instance where she cried, when she had a break up with her beau, Rajniesh Duggall, in the film. In that scene too, she was able to emote naturally without any glycerine!

So friends, do you feel that the real Sunny is a very emotional person who can actually enact her scenes with unmatched ease, especially as she had to cry, which proves that she is an actor beyond compare. What say?

OMG! ZAREEN SPILLS BEANS ABOUT SALMAN'S WEDDING

Actress Zareen Khan says she is happy if "things are happening" between superstar Salman Khan and his rumoured Romanian girlfriend Iulia Vantur. She wishes the couple good luck.

Asked about Salman's marriage, Zareen told reporters at the launch of the song "Khallas Veerappan" here: "I have no idea about what's happening in other people's lives because there's so much happening in my life."

Will Salman be a good husband?

"I really don't know and I'm not here to judge. I'm happy if things are happening between him and Iulia. I just wish them all the best and I think the whole country has been waiting for him to get married so, I think it will be something to look forward to," said Zareen, who shared screen space with Salman in "Veer".

Zareen, who celebrated her birthday on Saturday, donned a "jungle-look" for "Khallas Veerappan". "I never ever imagined myself doing something like this. I think it is their (producer Sachiin Joshi and director Ram Gopal Varma) faith that they had in me, their vision that I wanted to live up to," she said.

The promotional song "Khallas Veerappan" for maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma's forthcoming movie "Veerappan" has been recreated from "Khallas" -- a song from his 2002 film "Company".

"The brief that I got was that I had to depict the spirit of Veerappan, and I hope that I am depicting it. The song was personally my favourite. I am very glad that I could be a part of this song."
